Near Winter's Border

NEAR WINTER’S BORDER

The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.

-Isaiah 40: 8 (CSB)

Well, the leaves are falling off the trees this autumn/fall, but it’s sure taking a while to cool down. The Saturday before Halloween last month was a “strangely warm” 80 degrees. Hard to believe that the next newsletter (if the Lord allows us) will be published days before Christmas. Yes, we’re near winter’s border, but it doesn’t feel like it some days. Not that we’re complaining.

On the Farm

In the last newsletter, we mentioned wanting to overwinter crops to extend the season, etc. We’re trying to walk the talk. Greg’s been overwintering veggies at one greenhouse on Hawkins Street.

Kale, collards, callaloo, and tomato.

Thermometer inside the greenhouse

In one daylight test that we did, although it was about 70 degrees in the greenhouse, outside was measuring a cool 41 degrees. However, the sun was out that day so we’ll have to do more testing at night when the temperature tends to drop.

The Documentary

Last time, we promised to send a video of a documentary collab with Solid Ground, a University of Connecticut Extension program. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-3xAPnIrOE

Podcast - 2 New Episodes

In September we told you that we started a podcast. Two additional episodes were added. We’re still getting our bearings, but we plan to talk with people in ministries from near and far. In the 2nd episode, we featured Fanny Marone, a member of our board. The 3rd episode features Barbara Pittman, an evangelist with a gift for ‘seeing’ things. Listen to those features here on our new platform, Alitu: https://theurbanlp.alitu.com/1?order=oldest

A Fall Poem

At Winter’s Border

Hordes of blackbirds
Are leaves
In these trees
That are bare
Winter’s almost here
